We’re excited to welcome a true NYC radio legend to the WFDU family!

Born in Harlem, Bobby Jay grew up surrounded by legends and steeped in the sounds of jazz, soul, gospel, and rock ‘n’ roll. Influenced by the vibrant music scene of New York City and inspired by icons like Frankie Lymon and The Harptones, Bobby began singing in vocal groups as a teen and quickly found his voice—and his calling.
He rose to prominence as the bass singer with The Laddins and later became a respected broadcaster, hosting shows on legendary stations like WWRL and WCBS-FM. He earned accolades including Billboard’s Major Market Air Personality of the Year and became known for his warm, engaging style on radio, TV, and stage.
Bobby’s talents go beyond performing—he studied music theory, taught harmony at The New School for nearly two decades, and gave back through mentorship, charity concerts, and public service. He has sung with iconic doo-wop and R&B groups, performed at major venues, and even appeared in films, documentaries, and national commercials.
A true musical Renaissance man, Bobby Jay continues to inspire with a career spanning over 60 years. His legacy is one of passion, perseverance, and a deep belief in the power of music to connect and uplift.
With his deep roots in NYC radio and passion for classic harmony, Bobby brings a legendary voice and authentic love for the genre to our Sunday lineup.
