On August 30, 1971, at 12 noon, WFDU-FM began broadcasting to the New York Metropolitan Area from its transmitter located at the historically significant Armstrong Field Laboratory in Alpine, New Jersey. This site is renowned for being the original location of the world’s first FM station, W2XMN, which was established by Major Edwin Howard Armstrong, the pioneer of FM technology.
